Our History
Montrose Academy was founded in 1996 by Chris Owsley as a homeschool support center running out of a garage in a local law firm. It was a modest idea at first, but it quickly grew. By the next year, the academy had moved to the Moscow Church of the Nazarene and was officially christened Montrose Academy. Over time, it expanded beyond homeschool help into single-subject classes, personalized tutoring, and full academic programs for students who attended full time.
In 2002, Montrose celebrated its first graduating class with two students. That was a small milestone, but it became the start of a long-lasting impact. By 2014, the academy had already graduated 51 students, and it had supported hundreds of families through their educational journeys. Later on, there was a period of dormancy before Montrose Academy reopened in the 2025/2026 academic year, continuing its mission to deliver flexible, student-centered education in a way that actually fits the learner.
